Description
This innovative Blue Green Algae Quick Test will check for the presence of toxins from cyanobacteria / blue-green algae in just 15 minutes.
Cyanobacteria are aquatic and photosynthetic and hence live in water. They are also called blue-green algae, but they are a bacteria not an algae. They are one of the largest group of bacteria on earth and the oldest known fossil. They are a health risk to humans and animals as they can produce neurotoxins, cytotoxins, endotoxins and hepatotoxins. Cyanobacteria reproduce explosively under certain conditions and toxins produced by them can not be detected by visual inspection alone. Even after blue-green algae disappear, the water might still contain the toxins for a while. If the cyanobacteria involved in algal blooms produce toxins, then they can become harmful and pose a danger to humans and animals. Testing for blue-green algae toxicity is crucial for safeguarding the health and well-being of both animals and humans.
Originally developed by the University of Turku, Finland, this rapid diagnostic tool is sensitive and 99% accurate:
- Detects eleven common hepatotoxins, caused by blue green algae in just 15 minutes
- Very low sensitivity levels: 1 µg/L (= 1ppb/ 1ng/ml)
- Easy to use – results in 4 simple steps
- Includes everything required to carry out the test on-site
- Requires only a few drops of water
- Ideal for quick and reliable testing of water
Unlike traditional immunoassays, which involve complex, multi-step processes, this Blue Green Algae Test offers a streamlined single-step in vitro approach, delivering immediate, sensitive and indicative results in just 15 minutes.
Contains: one test, single use – can be used to test 1 water sample and includes:
- Pair of disposable gloves
- Water sample container
- Pipette
- Test cassette
Sensitivity levels: below 1 µg/L (= 1ppb / 1ng/ml )
Suitable for: fresh water, surface water, ponds, lakes and streams
Indicator: Presence / Absence at 1ppb (parts per billion)
Total Test Time: approx. 15 minutes
Warning: Keep out of reach of children. Ages 18+ only. Highly flammable solid. Harmful if inhaled. Can cause eye damage and skin irritation. Protect skin and eyes. Outdoor use only.
The test result is valid only for the sample tested. It does not guarantee that other parts of the water are free of toxins or toxin levels change after the result is obtained. Natural factors such as wind, currents and similar conditions may quickly and significantly affect the condition of the water.
General description: For semi-quantitative determinations.
